Your Personal Brand
I believe everyone has a personal brand and not only that, but in this day and age you can monetize it. How do you know what your personal brand is and how on Earth do you monetize it?
What are you passionate about? What excites you? Are you a parent? Do you own a dog? Do you enjoy organizing?
Everything is content.
Don’t overthink it. If you have a dog and you love this dog, then create an instagram and share the puppy love!
Do you know how to clean your kitchen? Well, these types of videos go viral on TikTok. Literally you clean your kitchen, show short clips of you doing so and you don’t even add music. Put it together on a reel and BAM viral.
Now the point is not to just go viral, there should be a Call To Action of some sort. These types of videos get monetized through brand partnerships, setting up an affiliate store even Amazon storefront (barely any money is made here) or you can create your own store through Shopify or Square.
The possibilities are endless.
What is your personal brand - make it clear, one word, don’t confuse anyone. For example - photography, running, cooking, parenting, dog.
Then refine your brand even more. So mine is running, but specifically running every single day - let’s talk about the blue ocean on that later. Or yours is photography. Then what specific type of photography? Family portraits? (yawn) city photography (this does great in reels) architecture (interesting, but also how do you make this exciting in reels) or you could be a photographer and your brand is to showcase behind the scenes of your work. Or you have a dog.
Speak to your audience. If you don’t have an audience, make one up. Who is your ideal customer? Many accounts fail because you start the personal brand and you speak to your existing audience - friends, family, colleagues… and the worst is your parents! Censoring your content to please someone is the biggest creativity blocker in the world. Forget about the people you know. In my experience these people are the ones that will simply like a post, they do not increase engagement. You would think attracting thousands of followers, friends and family would be the biggest fans, but this is not the case. I have far bigger fans thousands of miles away than people I have known my whole life.
Consistency. Commit to posting one reel a day for a month. You have to be consistent about it. People will forget about you. We don’t have time to remember brands or people these days.
Engage. Create super fans, converse with your audience. Ask questions. This is a full time job indeed. You are creating a community.
I am passionate about finding a personal brand for everyone. I offer a consulting package to get your brand up and going. Yes, some commitment on your end is required, but sometimes it takes that extra accountability and guidance to get you started. Please see my social media consulting page for more.
What did you come up with on your personal brand? I would love to know!
